Although I’m a longtime Mac / Apple user, I don’t want Microsoft to stumble and fall any more than they already have. In fact, I would like to see Microsoft succeed.
Here’s why: I believe competition, for the most part, is a good thing, and Microsoft has shown with its recent Metro OS that it’s still capable of innovation.
But here’s the thing: if Microsoft falters, the battle will likely be between Apple and Google. Microsoft, like Apple, understands that I’m first and foremost a customer. Google sees me as a product, someone whose personal information is a commodity to be bought and sold primarily to others.
I’m not anti-Google; they do great stuff. But in the final analysis, I’d like this to be a competition where those who value me as a customer outnumber those who don’t.
